Digital Video Projector

A digital video projector in LCD or DLP offers the best picture quality available.

A digital video projector offers far better quality than standard film projectors.  If you are building a home theater, there’s really only one choice, and it should always be a digital projector.  The problem with traditional film projectors is that they don’t offer fantastic picture quality, and also don’t really allow for high definition images.  Also, film projectors are much harder to manage, and take a lot more training and practice to successfully run on your own.  A digital video projector is an easier alternative, that will also offer much more picture quality than you would be able to achieve otherwise.

For digital video projectors, there will be two choices put before you.  The two major types of projection are DLP and LCD.  DLP stands for digital light processing, and is one of the most common and widely used projector types.  They lend themselves to most home theaters better, because they are much more affordable projectors.  Typically a DLP projector can be as little as $800, but a high quality unit will usually require a larger investment.

DLP technology works by using micro mirrors to reflect light into an independent color wheel, which is then projected onto a screen via a lamp.  A higher end DLP projector will feature better and more crisp images.  Any DLP video projector you purchase should always be tested first, so that you can appropriately judge the picture’s quality.  Some DLP digital video projectors don’t display as high of a picture quality, or could display a washed out image that might not be up to your standards.  To avoid this, and ensure you’ll be happy with the multimedia projector, only purchase a unit that you can test first.  Whether by witnessing its ability in store first, or by purchasing a projector with a limited guarantee so that you can return the projector if you’re unhappy.

LCD projectors have by far the highest color saturation of any home projector, and remain to be the best digital video projectors on the market.  LCD is also the most expensive.  But for that price, you get true high definition picture that will rival the quality of a standard LCD TV.  An LCD digital video projector is more of an investment however, as they can be very expensive.  Most models cost into the thousands, especially for a high end LCD television.  But you can find cheaper LCD projectors that are much more affordable if you shop around before purchasing.  Although the cheaper models can compromise quality, so it’s more of a personal preference.

To purchase an LCD or DLP digital video projector, you can go to a local store, but the prices are usually inflated when you buy locally.  Electronics specialists tend to be best.  Big stores like Best Buy tend to have a wide variety.  But to really save money, and get the best projector possible, you’ll likely have to purchase online.  Amazon.com is one of the best, offering the biggest selection at some of the lowest prices.  Just make sure to shop around to get the best quality digital video projector for the lowest price.
